This is our final week of preparation for our annual Ministry Family Retreat! So far, 28 ministry families have registered from 17 different villages for the retreat, and volunteers from 6 states and 10 different churches are getting ready to make the trip to Alaska (if not from here) and on to Port Alsworth as early as next Sunday.
Some things about the retreat will be very familiar to guests this year, like having a dental team available for free dental care (usually saves a family of five over a thousand dollars), and the kitchen crew who are returning for their eighth year from Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Seeing familiar faces is one of the things that the ministry families have appreciated about our retreat over the years.
Other things are new this year at MFR, particularly the program for the kids (age 3-12). For the first time we will not be using a pre-made VBS-type curriculum, but rather using a custom program made just for Pastor/Missionary Kids (who are actively engaged in ministry in their villages) based on the book of Nehemiah.
The flight department is raring to go, with approximately 50-60 flight hours planned to get everyone to and from the event. The flying will be shared between ABM, MARC, SEND, and Samaritan’s Purse, as well as some commercial flights. Pray for clear skies and calm winds on the travel days! Be praying now for the families who are coming to feel loved, feel connected to God and their peers, and for spiritual protection so they can be free of the spiritual opposition so common in the villages they serve in.
