Our Mission
Nurturing Vitality brings lasting fruit
The mission of Arctic Barnabas is to nurture vitality in pastors and missionary families serving throughout remote Alaska.
Nurture--to care for and encourage the growth or development of
Vitality--state of being strong and active; having energy; power giving continuance of life
(Oxford American Dictionaries)
Jesus gave us a clear command recorded in John chapter 15,
"I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. This is my command: Love each other."
In Matthew chapter 5, Jesus says,
"You are the light of the world--like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father."
Later, the Apostle Paul expressed to the Christians in Rome that he longed to visit them face-to-face. He goes on to say,
"...so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord. When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I want to be encouraged by yours...I want to work among you and see spiritual fruit." (Romans 1:11-12, 13b)
The Arctic Barnabas mission to nurture vitality in pastors and missionary families is done in obedience to Jesus' command to produce lasting fruit by loving fellow believers. And, by nurturing them both spiritually and physically, this love is visible to others looking on--shining in the villages like a city on a hilltop or a lamp placed on a stand. Although sometimes slow and filled with hights and lows, lasting fruit is being produced in the lives of people out there! Jesus is using this mission for His glory! We continue to pray for fulfillment of the Great Commission in the arctic.
