Shelby and Debbie Smith joined Arctic Barnabas Ministries in December 2019. Shelby has nearly 40 years’ experience working in Air Traffic Control Maintenance between active duty Air Force, contractor, and federal civil service since 1981. He has worked with radar, automation, navigational equipment helping maintain safe airways for both civilian and military aviation.
Shelby has a Bachelor of Science degree in Vocational Education from the University of Southern Mississippi, as well as a certificate in ministry from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor. He has been a certified financial counselor with Crown Ministries. He is also a commercial pilot.
Debbie is a Registrar/Principal’s secretary for a high school in Copperas Cove, Texas and has 30 years’ experience as an administrative assistant. Her career fields include medical, patent and trademark law firms, Brown & Root Construction Firm, and Amerada-Hess Oil & Gas.
Debbie received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in Business Education specializing in the medical and legal field. Debbie has been involved in leading Awana’s, GA’s for 5th and 6th grade girls, and participated in Vacation Bible School for several years. She enjoys sewing, upcycling, and attending craft shows.
Shelby and Debbie have led bible study classes for single and young married adults and have also taught Kindergarten Sunday School. He has led and participated in numerous church-sponsored mission trips in Arizona, Texas, Louisiana and of course, Nome, Alaska. Shelby enjoys hunting, fishing, and reading. The Smith’s have three grown children: Caitlyn-24, Rachel-20 and Joshua-19.
The Smith’s currently reside in Kempner, Texas and plan to move to Alaska in the summer of 2020.
