What’s New?!

The end of a long winter means a new cycle of activity for Alaskan pastors and missionaries.  With the arrival of springtime come long-awaited outdoor activities, construction projects and possibly a visit from the staff of Arctic Barnabas! Just in the past month ABM staff have been out visiting and assisting Christian leaders in Galena, Port Alsworth, Huslia, Ft. Yukon, Bettles and Nenana, to name a few.

May through September are super busy months! Our staff use any transportation means necessary to get out and connect with those serving in remote places while the weather is good. This coming week we’re looking forward to sending a team out to Nenana to help a missionary finish his hangar so he and his family will be better equipped for their aviation-based ministry. While the building of a hangar might sound rather benign to some, it is a monumental project when considering the lack of resources and the location of the project.

Looking forward, here are a few ways the ABM staff will be serving pastors and missionaries around the Arctic this summer:

• Visiting ministry families in their villages
•Assisting village pastors and missionaries with construction projects
• Filling the pulpit for pastors who need a summer break
• Hosting fish camp locally for ministry families during the salmon run
• Extending hospitality to ministry families as well as ministry partners
•Assisting mission organizations in planning retreats and training conferences
• Providing in-field counselling for missionaries who request it
• Planning for this fall’s Ministry Family Retreat
